The first full trailer for Moana 2 has been released, featuring the return of Auli'i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson as Moana and Maui.
The sequel to the 2016 hit follows Moana on a new adventure across the ocean, this time with a crew of unlikely seafarers including her rooster Heihei and pet pig Pua.
The trailer offers a glimpse of the story without giving away too much. Disney has revealed that Moana will be called upon by her ancestors to journey to dangerous, uncharted waters. The film is expected to appeal to both fans of the original who are now teenagers or adults, and a new generation of children.
Reaction to the trailer has been mixed, with some fans excited to see Moana's return and others questioning the need for a sequel. The film will hit theatres on November 27th, where it will face competition from the live-action musical "Wicked."
Moana 2 will feature new music from a team of composers, including the songwriting duo Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear who gained fame for their unofficial Bridgerton musical on TikTok. Lin-Manuel Miranda, who worked on the music for the original Moana, is not involved in the sequel.

A sequel was previously in development as a Disney+ series, but the company surprised fans in February when it revealed it would take the film to cinemas instead. Songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda - who was nominated for an Oscar for the original - has not returned to work on the music for the sequel.
