'Mujib: The Making of a Nation' to premiere at Toronto Film Festival

The joint effort of the governments of Bangladesh and India is set to shine on the global stage as they collaboratively present "Mujib: The Making of a Nation" at the 48th Toronto International Film Festival.

This much-anticipated event, spanning from September 7th to 17th in Canada's Toronto, features an immersive showcase that includes the lifelike portrayals of renowned actors Arifin Shuvoo and Nusrat Imrose Tisha. The festival's opening day will see these two talented performers taking their positions.

This remarkable cinematic endeavor tells the inspiring life story of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. As per the letter signed by the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Mohammad Golam Azam, the film's creation aims to celebrate and commemorate the visionary leader's extraordinary journey.

Director of "Mujib: The Making of a Nation," Shyam Benegal, shared his enthusiasm, stating, "For the first time, the film will premiere at the Toronto festival. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has shown great interest in presenting the film at an international film festival, especially in countries like Canada, where many Bangladeshis reside."

Shyam Benegal further elaborated, "After the premiere at the festival, the film will be released in both Bangladesh and India between September and December. Plans are also underway to release the movie in several other countries worldwide."

The film, which has already received a censor certificate in Bangladesh on July 31st, is currently under the censorship process in India, as revealed by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

"Mujib: The Making of a Nation," directed by Shyam Benegal, features prominent actors including Arifin Shuvoo, who portrays the character of Bangabandhu, the celebrated actress Nusrat Imrose Tisha, who takes on the role of Sheikh Hasina, and Nusraat Faria, who portrays the pivotal character of Begum Fazilatunnesa, Bangabandhu's wife. Alongside these leading performers, the film showcases the talents of over a hundred actors.

The film's journey began in January 2021, as the shooting of the initial phase commenced at Dadar Sahib Phalke Studio in Mumbai. The movie boasts the collaboration of assistant director Dayal Nihalani, scriptwriters Atul Tiwari and Shama Zaidi, and art director Nitish Roy. Costume direction is helmed by Shyam Benegal's daughter, Pia Benegal.
