Despite planning elaborate programmes scheduled from Sunday morning on the occasion of the National Film Day, the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) premises remained virtually deserted most of the day.
BFDC had organised various programmes on Sunday to celebrate National Film Day after two years because of the pandemic situation. However, the day passed without any noticeable ceremonies or events.
April 3 was declared National Film Day in, 1957 when Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman suggested the formation of the East Pakistan Provincial Council's Film Development Corporation.
National Film Day was scheduled to start at 10:15am on Sunday at FDC. But no formalities or celebration could be noticed on the FDC premises even after the hours bled into noon.
The street in front of the administrative building was lined with old movie posters, colourful decorative clothes and balloons. However, the rest of the FDC premises remained barren.
This year, National Film Day was supposed to be a big celebration after two years of pause, but there weren’t any noticeable changes in the atmosphere around FDC. None of the nation’s notable celebrities could be seen. Only the administrative staff and random people were there on this special day.
The Business Post contacted the president of the Bangladesh Film Artists' Association regarding this event. However, he refrained from making any comments by saying he was busy and could not talk at the moment.
