In its new biannual engagement report, Netflix has disclosed the most popular shows and movies on its platform for the past six months. The streaming giant plans to release this report twice a year, offering insights into viewing habits and preferences.

The inaugural report covers the period from January to June 2023, revealing that "The Night Agent" and "Ginny & Georgia" claimed the top spots as the most-watched shows. "The Night Agent" season one secured the lead with over 812 million viewing hours, followed closely by the second season of the drama "Ginny & Georgia" with over 665 million hours.

Rounding out the top five were "The Glory" season one (over 628 million hours), the debut season of the Jenny Ortega-led series "Wednesday" (over 507 million hours), and the limited prequel series "Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story" (over 503 million hours).

In the movie category, Jennifer Lopez's action film "The Mother" took the lead with nearly 250 million viewing hours. Idris Elba's "Luther: The Fallen Sun" followed with 207 million hours, and Chris Hemsworth's "Extraction 2" garnered over 201 million hours.

However, Netflix emphasizes that viewership hours alone don't define success. "We have enormously successful movies and TV shows with both lower and higher hours viewed," they stated, highlighting the importance of audience engagement and cost-effectiveness in determining a title's impact.

The streaming giant highlighted that the new biannual reports, combined with its weekly Top 10 and Most Popular lists, aim to provide a more comprehensive picture for viewers, creators, and industry observers. Additionally, the report revealed that non-English content contributed to 30 percent of all viewing on the platform.
