There was much surprise and anticipation after a company named Silverline Events announced that American singer-songwriter Charlie Puth will be coming to Dhaka in February and mesmerise his Bangladeshi fans.

But in a bigger surprise, the whole thing has turned out to be a false advertisement — with many calling the initiative directly a scam.

The event management company in question, Silverline, had recently announced on its website and Facebook page that Puth’s highly-anticipated concert was scheduled for February 10 at the capital’s International Convention City Bashundhara, generating excitement amongst fans. It had also claimed that two additional local artists would join Charlie Puth on stage.

Based on that information, The Business Post, like many other local newspapers and media outlets, published a report saying Puth was coming to Bangladesh.

However, after confusion and concerns arose regarding the legitimacy of the event and the unusually low ticket prices, multiple newspapers and outlets reached out to Puth’s agent/brand manager Brent Smith for confirmation.

Since then, Smith has confirmed to several media outlets that Charlie Puth has no scheduled concert in Bangladesh in the upcoming months. He also expressed surprise, saying he was “not sure how this story originated but it is not accurate information”.

Some have also found that the number Silverline provided for ticket payments is flagged as 'scammer' on the True Caller App, which only fuelled suspicions of fraudulent activities.

Some people have even posted on social media saying they have lost a large sum of money by buying multiple tickets to the concert.

Amid these developments, which have left thousands of fans disheartened, Silverline’s website and Facebook page both have gone missing. It’s supposed officials are unreachable over the phone as well.

The Business Post would like to apologise for publishing the report based on Silverline’s claims that have turned out to be false.
