Written by French playwright Yasmina Reza and directed M Arifur Rahman, the comedy play ‘Art’ will be staged on Saturday at 4 pm, while ‘12 Angry Men’ will be staged at 7 pm.
The play ’12 Angry Men’ is a cult classic courtroom drama and M Arifur Rahman has directed the play. The play will be staged in Bengali Language.
’12 Angry Men’ is an adaptation of the 1957 American courtroom drama film 12 Angry Men directed by Sidney Lumet, which was adapted from a 1954 teleplay of the same name by Reginald Rose.
The story goes as, a 12-member jury is sent to begin deliberations in the first-degree murder trial of an 18-year-old man accused of the stabbing death of his father, where a guilty verdict means an automatic death sentence. The play explores many techniques of consensus-building and the difficulties encountered in the process, among a group of men whose range of personalities adds intensity and conflict.
On the other hand, the story of the play ‘Art’ is set in Paris. The play revolves around three friends—Serge, Marc, and Yvan—who find their previously solid 15-year friendship on shaky ground when Serge buys an expensive painting. The canvas is white, with several fine white lines.
The play will cast M Arifur Rahman, Ritwik Mahbub, and Tahmid Suprav. It is the fourth production of the group.
