A week-long photography exhibition titled “Buk Petechhi Guli Kor” (Shoot Me in the Chest) is underway at the Drikpath Bhobon in the capital’s Panthapath. Marking the Drik’s 35th anniversary, Drik Picture Library has arranged the exhibition.
The exhibition features various photographs of the student uprising in the month of July and August.
The photography exhibition was inaugurated at Drik Gallery on Friday evening. The families of the martyrs of the July uprising and the injured and shot students of the movement jointly inaugurated the exhibition.
Bibi Ayesha, mother of martyr Zulfiqar Ahmad Shakil, martyr journalist Hasan Mehdi’s wife Farhana Islam Popi, martyr Farhan Fayyaz Ratul aunt Farzana Munmun, student Shahinur Sumi and injured student Saifuddin Muhammad Emdad were present in this event. Shahidul Alam, eminent photographer and founder of Drik, gave a welcome speech at the event.
In the opening ceremony, the relatives of the victims and the injured described the painful memory of losing their husbands or children in the uprising of students and the brutality of that time. They also demanded justice for those involved in these misdeeds.
Student Saifuddin Muhammad Emdad lost his sight in his right eye due to firing by the police during the student movement. Narrating his harrowing experience, he said, "I was being deliberately shot by the police. Sound grenades were fired from a distance of 5-6 feet, bullets were fired. We got shot in one eye. They could have shot in the leg, but they shot in the head.”
A number of 115 photographs and 9 videos (screen grabs) of the July mass uprising of 41 photographers are being displayed at the exhibition.
The exhibition will remain open to all every day from 3 pm to 8 pm until September 21 at Drik Gallery.
