The solo exhibition of artist Rezaul Hoque titled `Living on the Edge’ has begun at La Galerie of Alliance Française de Dhaka, Dhanmondi in the capital.

The inaugural ceremony of the exhibition was held on Friday. Eminent human rights activist Sultana Kamal attended the event as the chief guest, while eminent artists Mohammad Eunus and Biren Shome were present as special guests.

Rezaul Hoque’s art is an expression of human emotions and inequalities in everyday life, while dreaming of a beautiful future. His paintings at this exhibition are mainly about people and their life-struggle, exploitation, rights, inequality, hope and different deep-rooted perceptions of life. He uses these themes to advocate for a more equal society through his art. Through his unique painting technique of painting paper by burning it through heat convection, his images come out in golden hues which also depicts the impression of being burnt by life’s struggles.

Around 40 artworks are on display, most of which are in the artist’s own innovative technique of painting based on application of heat convection to burn paper burn. Paintings in other media will also be on display.

Rezaul Hoque, a professional artist, is a graduate of the Institute of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Since 1993, through experimentation, he has created a unique technique of painting using heat convection, presented at this exhibition. Based on the principle of heat transfer through convection, he creates his artwork. Reza aims to communicate through his artwork not the abjectness of the people but their strength and hope. Based on his technique and thematic work, awards received by Reza are the 1) Faces of the Peace Art Prize Award in 2022 by the Europe-based Contemporary Art Curator Magazine and 2) Harmony for Humanity: The Global Consciousness Art Prize in 2023 by the Spain-based Contemporary Art Collectors.
