Renowned actress and director Rokeya Prachi has been ousted from her position as vice president of the Television and Digital Program Producers' Association of Bangladesh (Telepab) due to alleged disciplinary violations.
The decision was confirmed by Telepab General Secretary Shazzad Hossain Dodul, who stated that an official statement detailing the specific breaches would be released soon.
Rokeya Prachi is well-known not only for her contributions to the entertainment industry but also for her active involvement in Awami League politics. She has been a prominent figure in various political events and party activities over the years.
On the night of August 14, Prachi attended a gathering at Bangabandhu's residence on Dhanmondi 32 to pay her respects to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on National Mourning Day. The event turned violent, and Prachi was brutally assaulted, leaving her in critical condition. Since then, she has remained out of the public eye.
Prachi's removal is part of a broader trend of institutional shakeups across the country, as reforms continue to ripple through government offices and cultural organisations alike.
Just two months ago, on June 8, Telepab had announced its new committee for the 2024-26 terms during a bi-annual conference at the Banani Club in Dhaka.
The committee, led by President Arshad Adnan and General Secretary Shazzad Hossain Dodul, appointed Prachi as vice president—a position she held for less than two months before her ousting.
