In the wake of accusations by Pakistani singer Omer Nadeem of plagiarism involving Sonu Nigam's latest song "Sun Zara," the renowned Indian singer has responded to the controversy.
The dispute arose after fans noted similarities between Sonu's composition and Omer's 2009 song, "Aye Khuda."
Sonu Nigam, acknowledging the similarities, took to Instagram to extend an apology to Omer Nadeem, emphasizing that the resemblance was unintentional.
He clarified the circumstances surrounding the creation of "Sun Zara," stating, "Just so you all know, I have nothing to do with this. I was requested to do the song by KRK (Kamaal R Khan), who is my neighbour in Dubai. And then couldn't refuse him, even though I don't sing for everyone."
Adding that he would have refrained from singing the song had he heard Omer's version earlier, Sonu Nigam said, "If I had heard Omer's version, I would have never sung it."
Omer responded to Sonu's comments, expressing his understanding and admiration for the Indian singer. "I agree with you, I never mentioned in my statement anywhere that you did this. The news took a different turn like it always does. I've grown up listening to your songs and have learned a lot from you. I am your huge fan. Love you!"
In a further exchange, Sonu, writing in Hindi, apologized for not having heard Omer's song earlier and praised his rendition. Omer, grateful for the acknowledgment, responded, "This coming from you means so much to me! There is no singer more melodious or versatile than you in the world right now. Immense respect!"
The controversy arose when "Sun Zara," released on December 2 in collaboration with DJ Sheizwood and Kamaal R Khan, failed to credit Omer Nadeem for the alleged similarities. The situation has sparked discussions on social media about the ethics of music composition and proper attribution in the industry.
