After nearly eight months of eager anticipation, Shah Rukh Khan has made a triumphant return to the silver screen with "Jawan," following the success of “Pathan.”
Fans, adorned with flowers and fireworks, gathered outside the cinema at midnight, eagerly awaiting the spectacle on the big screen.
However, within a just six hours of its release, “Jawan” fell prey to online piracy, a common woe in the film industries around the world. Typically, perpetrators use cameras to illicitly record the entire film in theaters, spreading it through social media platforms.
This illicit practice not only leads to financial losses for filmmakers but also disrupts the authentic movie-going experience for genuine fans. Despite diligent efforts to combat piracy, “Jawan” has found itself ensnared in its web.
Meanwhile, after much drama and speculation regarding its release in Bangladesh, "Jawan" has received the green light from the Censor Board and is set to be screened on Thursday.
This is the first time an Indian film will be released in Bangladesh on the same day as its global premiere. According to filmmaker-distributor Anonno Mamun from Action Cut Entertainment, the film received an uncut censor certificate at 12pm Thursday, following a viewing by the Censor Board members.
The importers, Action Cut Entertainment and Rongdhonu Group, have confirmed that the film will commence its screenings Thursday night. Primarily, 'Jawan' is scheduled to be shown in 41 theaters across the country, as per its overseas distributor Yash Raj Films.
A few months back, a clip from the film had also gone viral on X, formerly Twitter, indicating a potential leak. Red Chillies Entertainment swiftly filed a complaint with police, asserting that the clip had been stolen and subsequently shared online.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of Bangladesh granted permission for "Jawan's" import on August 27, and its screening on the same day as its global release.
Earlier, another Shah Rukh Khan film, "Pathaan", was released in Bangladesh in May and got massive responses from the fans.
However, several artists and filmmakers, namely Delwar Jahan Jhantu, expressed anger and frustration over the release of Hindi films in Bangladesh.
"Jawan" features an ensemble cast with South Indian superstar Nayantara, Bollywood's acclaimed actress Deepika Padukone, South Indian actor Vijay Sethupathi, and SRK himself in multiple characters, alongside Sania Malhotra, Priyamani, Sunil Grover, and Yogi Babu, among others.
Since its release in the early hours of Thursday, the film has been getting rave reviews from both critics and moviegoers.
