Celebrating its 19th year in the industry this October, Bangladeshi cinema giant Star Cineplex has unveiled an ambitious expansion plan. The company aims to double its footprint, targeting the establishment of 40 branches within the coming year.
The company's Chairman, Mahboob Rahman Ruhel, made the announcement during the anniversary celebration, emphasizing their commitment to advancing the film industry in the country.
Already, the wheels have been set in motion for the expansion project, with new branches underway in Narayanganj, Bogra and Chattogram. Furthermore, plans to open branches in various areas of Dhaka are in the pipeline, with the first one slated to be launched in Uttara.
On Wednesday, a significant agreement was signed between Star Cineplex and United Group, with signatures from Chairman Mahboob Rahman Ruhel and Chairman & Managing Director of United Group, Moinuddin Hasan Rashid.
Senior Manager of Star Cineplex's Media and Marketing Division revealed that the new branch will be in Uttara’s Centre Point Shopping Mall which will feature four state-of-the-art halls. The halls will boast modern amenities, including cutting-edge sound systems and giant screens, promising an exceptional cinema experience.
In a bid to enhance accessibility for moviegoers, Star Cineplex is initiating a series of new branches across various neighborhoods in Dhaka.
Mahboob expressed, "We had previously announced plans to build numerous cinema halls across the country. The execution of this plan is now well underway. This initiative will play a pivotal role in the growth of the national film industry. We have a large audience base in our capital city, Dhaka. Due to various reasons, many movie enthusiasts are unable to travel long distances for entertainment. Taking into consideration the convenience of viewers in areas like Uttara, Tongi, Savar, Gazipur, and its surrounding regions, we have taken the initiative to establish a new branch in a spacious area in Uttara. We hope to inaugurate this branch in the near future."
Currently, Star Cineplex has branches in prominent locations, including Bashundhara City Shopping Mall, Shimanto Shambhar (formerly Rifles Square), SKS Tower, Military Museum and Mirpur-1, as well as branches in Chattogram and Rajshahi.
