Theatre troupe Swapnadal will stage the tenth show of its 18th production ‘Macbeth’ today at 7 pm at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segun Bagicha in the capital.

The play written by William Shakespeare has been directed by Zahid Repon while the story reconstruction has been done by Juana Sobnom.

The story of the play goes as three witches tell the Scottish general Macbeth that he will be King of Scotland. Encouraged by his wife, Macbeth kills the king, becomes the new king, and kills more people out of paranoia. Civil war erupts to overthrow Macbeth, resulting in more death.

“The story of the play is familiar to everyone. I choose this story as it is something that happened thousands of times in thousands of different places with thousands of people. For example, Nawab Sirajuddaula got betrayed by someone he trusted and who was very close to him,” said Repon.

“The same thing happened with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He was also killed by those he once trusted. This is one message I want to give to this play. I also tried to blend some of our elements in this play to make it more relatable to the audience. I hope everyone will come to watch the new production. Hope they will like it,” he added.

A total of 14 members are working behind the production. The key role of Macbeth will be played by Tarek Aziz Nishok while Juana Sobnom will be seen playing the role of one of the three witches of Macbeth.

Apart from them, the play will have, Fazle Rabee Sukarno, Shakhawat Shamol, Shishir Shikder and others in various roles.
