In celebration of International Women's Day, renowned Bangladeshi theatre troupe Swapnadal is set to honour esteemed actress and director Hridi Huq for her significant contributions to the country's theatre scene.

The award ceremony, a longstanding tradition of Swapnadal, will take place today at 7pm at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. This year's theme, "May women be blessed with the right to shape their own destinies," underscores the importance of empowering women in society.

Highlighting the evening's program, Swapnadal will showcase their acclaimed play "Chitrangada," which garnered praise at India's "Bharat Rang Mahotsav," Asia's largest theatre festival.

The prestigious award will be presented to Hridi Huq by chief guest Ferdous Ahmed, a renowned actor, under the presidency of esteemed playwright and researcher Dr. Ratan Siddique. Actress Jyotika Jyoti and Kamruzzaman Balark, head of the Renaissance Drama Society in Melbourne, Australia, will grace the event as special guests.

Reflecting on the significance of the event, Zahid Repon reiterated Swapnadal's commitment to honoring exceptional women in theatre, citing past recipients including Ferdousi Mazumdar, Shimul Yousuf and Lucky Enam, among others.
