Will Smith is set to star in the action-thriller "Sugar Bandits," based on Chuck Hogan's novel "Devils in Exile." The project will be presented at the upcoming European Film Market (EFM), which kicked off yesterday in Berlin.
Details about the plot are scarce, with the logline currently under wraps. However, the film is based on Hogan's novel, which follows a troubled Iraq War veteran who teams up with fellow soldiers to rob drug dealers in Boston.
Smith will also produce the film alongside Jon Mone for their Westbrook Studios, with Ryan Shimazaki overseeing the project. Stuart Ford (AGC Studios) and Richard Abate (3 Arts Entertainment) are producers. AGC International and CAA Media Finance hold worldwide distribution rights.
Hogan, known for his work on "The Town" and "13 Hours," adapted his novel for the screenplay. "Sugar Bandits" marks Smith's latest project following the Antoine Fuqua historical thriller "Emancipation" and upcoming films like "Bad Boys 4" and "I Am Legend 2."
The EFM runs from February 15-21 alongside the Berlin Film Festival.
