Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Friday forecast that seven divisions, including Dhaka, would see rain or thundershowers in the next 24 hours, which would bring relief to people amid the scorching summer heat.
“Rain/thundershowers with intense lightning flashes accompanied by temporary gusty/squally wind is likely to occur at a few places over Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Chattogram divisions,” the Met office said in a forecast for the next 24 hours commencing at 9:00am.
Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, it said.
Meanwhile, a mild heatwave is sweeping over the regions of Rajshahi, Pabna and Chuadanga and it may continue.
Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country, it said.
Trough of westerly low lies over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and adjoining areas. Seasonal low
lies over the south Bay, the Met office said.
The country's maximum temperature on Thursday was recorded 37.5 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi and the minimum temperature on Friday was recorded 22.0 degrees Celsius in Chuadanga.
The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours as of 6:00am Friday was recorded 13mm in Sylhet.
The sun will set at 6:20pm on Friday and will rise at 5:37am on Saturday in Dhaka.
