Dhaka dwellers experienced rainfall accompanied by gusty wind on Friday afternoon amid winter.

“The rain started in the capital after 12:00pm,” meteorologist Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik told The Business Post.

“Rain also occurred in places of other divisions. Due to the rain, day temperature may fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the country while night temperature may remain nearly unchanged,” he said.

The Met office recorded 37mm rainfall in Dinajpur in the last six hours till 12:00pm, the meteorologist added.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Meteorological Department, in a forecast for the next 24 hours commencing at 9:00am Friday, predicted light to moderate rain at places in Dhaka division and elsewhere.

“Light to moderate rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Chattogram division with moderately heavy falls at places over the country,” the Met office said.

Light to moderate fog may occur over the country during midnight to morning.

Trough of westerly low extends up to western part of Bangladesh and adjoining north Bay while seasonal low lies over south Bay, it said.

The country's maximum temperature on Thursday was recorded 29.3 degrees Celsius in Mongla of Bagerhat and the lowest temperature on Friday was recorded 11.2 degrees Celsius in Tetulia of Panchagarh.

The sun will set at 5:47pm on Friday and will rise at 6:38am on Saturday in Dhaka.
