Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Thursday forecast that the spell of the ongoing heatwave which is baking the parts of the country, is likely to continue.

“Mild to moderate heatwave is sweeping over Khulna division and the districts of Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Rangamati, Rajshahi and Pabna and it may continue,” the Met office said in a forecast for the next 24 hours commencing at 9:00am.

“Rain/thundershowers with lightning flashes and temporary gusty/squally wind is likely to occur at one or two places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.”

Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, it said.

Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

Trough of westerly low lies over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and adjoining areas. Seasonal low lies over the south Bay, the Met office said.

The country's maximum temperature on Wednesday was recorded 38.9 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi and the minimum temperature on Thursday was recorded 22.6 degrees Celsius at Srimangal in Moulvibazar.

The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours as of 6:00am Thursday was recorded 11mm in Sylhet.

The sun will set at 6:25pm on Thursday and will rise at 5:27am on Friday in Dhaka.
