The ongoing mild heatwave that is baking Dhaka and other parts of the country is likely to continue further.
“Mild heatwave is sweeping over Rajshahi and Sylhet divisions and the districts of Dhaka, Tangail, Rangpur, Dinajpur and Nilphamari. It may continue,” the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said in a forecast on Thursday.
In the forecast for the next 24 hours commencing at 9:00am, the Met office also said that light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Rangpur, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi division with moderately heavy falls at isolated places over the country.

The well-marked low over Odisha and adjoining areas weekend into a low pressure system and lay over the same area, the BMD said, adding that one of its associated troughs extended to the northeast Bay.
“Monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, the centre of the low, Gangetic West Bengal to Assam across the southern part of Bangladesh.”
Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate elsewhere over the north Bay.
Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country, it said.
The country's maximum temperature was recorded 38.2 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi on Wednesday, while the minimum temperature was recorded 25.0 degrees Celsius at Hatiya on Thursday.
The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours till 6:00am Thursday was recorded 15mm at Srimangal.
The sun sets at 6.49pm Thursday and rises at 5:20am Friday in Dhaka.
