Mild heatwave sweeping over Rajshahi, Pabna likely to continue

The ongoing mild heatwave that is searing Rajshahi and Pabna, the northern districts of the country, is likely to continue further, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said in a forecast on Friday.

“Light to moderate rain/thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions with moderately heavy falls at isolated places over the country,” the Met Office said in the forecast for the next 24 hours commencing at 9:00am.

Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

The axis of monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Hariyana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal to Assam across central part of Bangladesh, the BMD said.

One of its associated troughs extends up to the northwest Bay. Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate elsewhere over the north Bay, it said.

The country's maximum temperature was recorded 37.5 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi on Thursday, while the minimum temperature was recorded 25.1 degrees Celsius in Rangamati on Friday.

The sun sets at 6:47pm Friday and rises at 5:23am Saturday in Dhaka.
