The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said on Monday a mild heatwave is sweeping over the districts of Rajshahi, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, and Panchagarh along with Srimangal of Moulvibazar.

In a forecast for the next 24 hours commencing at 9:00am, the Met office said the heatwave may continue further.

“Light to moderate rain/thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Khulna, Barishal and Sylhet divisions; at a few places over Dhaka, Mymensingh and Chattogram divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions with moderately heavy falls at places over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions,” it said.

The day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

The axis of the monsoon trough runs through India's Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal to Assam across the southern part of Bangladesh, the Met office said.

Monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and moderate over the north Bay, it added.
