Legal notice served to ban Bigo Live, TikTok and Likee

A legal notice has been served to authorities concerned to ban Bigo Live, TikTok and Likee apps in Bangladesh.

Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Md JR Khan Robin sent the legal notice on Thursday.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Secretary of the Ministry of Posts, Secretary of the Telecommunications and Information Ministry and the Chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) have been made respondents to the legal notice.

The notice said the younger generation is being endangered by using these apps. Morality, social values and mutual respect are being destroyed. Young people are getting involved in criminal activities by joining teen gangs and becoming violent through the use of these apps.

Young people want to gain cheap popularity by using these apps and many of them begin to think of themselves as very popular, thus causing harm to themselves and others, the notice added.

The notice sought response from the authorities concerned regarding this matter within 15 days. A writ petition will be filed with the High Court otherwise.
