State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak has said that a new high-tech park will be set up in Jamalpur to create more technology-based employment for the youth.

Besides, Bangladesh-India Digital Service and Employment Training Centre will be set up in 492 upazilas, including every upazila of Jamalpur.

Palak revealed the information on Sunday while handing over a laptop on behalf of the prime minister to physically-challenged Aklima Akhter of Jamalpur.

Jamalpur-3 constituency parliamentarian Mirza Azam received the laptop on behalf of Aklima at the ICT Division in Dhaka’s Agargaon.

Aklima along with local dignitaries and journalists joined the programme virtually from Jamalpur.

In his address, Palak recalled employing 1.5 million youth in the ICT sector in the past 12 years.

Laptops would be provided among differently abled 4,000 freelancers in 64 districts after training them, he said, adding that the ICT Division and the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would always be by the side of those who are physically impaired.

“We all have to play an active role in overcoming the disabilities and in nurturing their talents to bring them economic prosperity,” said Palak.

Aklima has obtained an MA degree braving all odds. She lost her walking ability due to typhoid but did not give up pursuing higher education.

She had been looking for a job after completing her studies.

After her story got media attention, the Jamalpur municipality mayor appointed her as a computer operator at the tax collection wing of the municipality.
