Inflation eases to 5.36% in July

The general point-to-point inflation rate declined by 0.28 percentage point from 5.64 per cent in June to 5.36 per cent in July, 2021.

“The inflation rate in July 2021 came down to 5.36 percentage points,” revealed planning minister MA Mannan while talking to the reporters after the ECNEC meeting held at the National Economic Council (NEC) conference room in the capital on Tuesday.

“It is good news for the country’s people as the general point-to-point inflation came down by 0.28 percentage point in July. The non-food inflation has also declined during the last month,” he also said. He said both the food and non-food inflation rate have come down last month.

Meanwhile, the general point-to-point inflation rate was 5.64 per cent points in June, 2021.

Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics data showed that the food inflation declined to 5.08 per cent in July 2021 from 5.45 per cent in June 2021.

The non-food inflation rate has also declined slightly to 5.80 per cent in July from 5.94 per cent in June, 2021.

However, the inflation in rural areas rose at a higher rate than that of the urban areas in the last month.

In July, the rural inflation decreased to 5.53 per cent from 5.84 per cent in June. The food inflation in the rural areas recorded at 5.56 per cent in last month, down from 6.04 per cent in June. The non-food inflation also increased to 5.47 per cent in July in rural Bangladesh from that of 5.46 per cent in June.

The urban inflation decreased slightly to 5.06 per cent in July from that of 5.29 per cent in June. The food inflation in urban areas recorded at 4.01 per cent in last month, down from 4.14 per cent in June. However, the non-food inflation in urban areas dropped in the last month to 6.24 per cent in July from 6.59 per cent in June.
