Ministers for translating sorrow into strength

The month of August is a month of great mourning for the Bangalees since the greatest son of this soil Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahmman lost his life at the hands of some conspirators.

“The eighth month of the year brings us back to an unending pain and grievance. Bangabandhu is not just a name, it is a shining history,” so said Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.

The minster was addressing a virtual programme on Sunday organised by the Economics Relations Division on the occasion of the National Mourning Day.

Bangabandhu is the matter of immense pride for independent Bengali heritage, he said, adding that the assassins not only killed the Father of the Nation but also did away with his wife Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib, his elder son Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal, baby boy Sheikh Russell and daughter-in-law Sultana Kamal and Rosie Jamal as well as 16 other members of his family and relatives.

Following the assassination, a sense of deep shock descended on Bangladesh as well as on the world as everyone was stunned, remembered Kamal.

Portraying the development work undertaken after the independence, Kamal said: “Bangabandhu kicked off nation-building initiative to turn the land into a Sonar Bangla by ensuring economic freedom but the killers didn’t let him accomplish the task.”

“The unfinished task left by Bangabandhu is being implemented by his worthy daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the architect of modern Bangladesh.”

The assassins did not know that the name of Bangabandhu could not be removed as Bangladesh and Bangabandhu signify the same, added the minister.

The commerce ministry also held the National Mourning Day programme which the finance minister joined later virtually.

Addressing the programme Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said: “After losing Bangabandhu we are shocked. We should translate our mourning into strength and materialise Bangabandhu’s dream of building a Sonar Bangla.”

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working day in and day out to fulfill that dream and so is the commerce ministry in line with that aspiration,” he added.

In his address, Industry Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun said the political philosophy of Bangabandhu was to build a happy and prosperous nation.

“Bangabandhu gave us clear instructions for every sector. On his behalf, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is implementing the dream of the Father of the Nation,” he added.

The minister hoped that Bangladesh would become a developed country by 2041 under the leadership of the premier following the philosophy and footsteps of Bangabandhu.
