Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the national flag carrier, has suspended its Dhaka-Kolkata-Delhi flight under Air Bubble Agreement as they were yet to get clearance from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh.
Biman’s General Manager for Public Relations Tahera Khandaker has confirmed it to The Business Post.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that flights could be operated between Bangladesh and India under the Air Bubble’ Agreement and Biman scheduled its weekly flights based on the minister’s remark. But we are yet to get clearance from our regulatory authority CAAB to go for the flight operation,” said Tahera Khandaker.
Earlier, on August 17, Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said flight operations between Bangladesh and India would resume from August 20. Then Biman Bangladesh Airlines on August 18 announced its flights to Kolkata and Delhi from August 22.
CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman said that they had sent some conditions regarding Covid-19 to their counterpart India over their Air Bubble flights proposal. “But we are yet to get any response. Any airlines require to abiding by the conditions over Covid-19 to operate flights.”
According to the Air Bubble agreement, diplomats, students and patients with medical emergencies will be able to travel via the special flights to India.
On October 28, 2020, Bangladesh and India introduced special flights and it continued till March 27, 2021. Biman Bangladesh Airlines, US-Bangla Airlines and Novo Air of Bangladesh and SpiceJet, Indigo, Air India, Go Air and Air Vistara of India operated those special flights.
