Cox’s Bazar airport to get int’l status

Cox’s Bazar Airport is going to get international features and facilities, including an extended runway and a seashell-shaped passenger terminal.

Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) officials hoped that world famous airliners will be able to land on the proposed 17,000-feet-long runway, which is now 9,000 feet, and the increased connectivity will boost tourism business.

According to the CAAB, the construction works on passenger terminal building sprawling on 10,912 square feet of land and the tarmac are on the last stage. On August 29, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the construction work of the runway’s extension in the sea.

The CAAB started the construction of the passenger terminal of the proposed international airport in January 2017 and the project is supposed to be complete by December 2022.
