BFIU seeks bank account details of Evaly, high-ups

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit has asked banks to submit the details of accounts of controversial e-commerce platform Evaly.com, its chairman Shamima Nasrin and Managing Director Md Rassel.

The anti-money laundering watchdog issued a directive on Wednesday in this regard. Bankers will have to send updated transaction details, receipts or copies of checks for deposits and withdrawals of Tk 50 lakh and above from 2020, as per the letter of BFIU.

The BFIU also asked the banks to provide the nominee information of these accounts and inform if any account was operated by the nominees.

If they have fixed deposits, loan account and Letter of Credit (LC) in their names, banks must provide the information along with relevant documents. Account opening form, Know Your Customer (KYC) profile and all related documents also should be sent, said the BFIU letter.

In August, the BFIU asked the banks to freeze the accounts of the company, its chairman Shamima and managing director Md Rassel.

Evaly came under scrutiny recently after customers complained of its poor dealings.

As per Evaly’s financial statement placed to Ministry of Commerce, the total equity and liabilities of the company stood at Tk 543.9 crore, while the current liability is Tk 542.9 crore.

As per the financial statement, the company claimed that it has tangible assets of Tk 105 crore as of July 15, while its current asset is worth Tk 9 crore. The property, plant and equipment value of the company stood at Tk 14.8 crore.

The commerce ministry on Tuesday asked the Bangladesh Bank to provide the latest financial situation of nine e-commerce companies- Alesha Mart, Dhamaka, E-orange, Sirajganj Shop, Aladiner Prodip, Qcoom, BoomBoom, Adyan Mart and Need.com.bd.

The ministry sought information on the total liabilities of the companies to the buyers and merchants and the amount of current and fixed capital of the companies.
