Bangladesh faces a shortage of 10,000 chartered accountants

Bangladesh has a demand for 12,000 chartered accountants but it currently has only 2,000.

“There’s a demand and supply gap in the country,” Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain said at a pre-article student programme for university students introduced by The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB).

“Chartered accountants have a demand both in national and international markets. They are getting attractive compensation compared to other professions. As Bangladesh’s economy is expanding, our country needs 12,000 chartered accountants, whereas ICAB has only 2,000 CAs,” he said.

Mahbub lauded the ICAB for its time-befitting decision to introduce the pre-article programme to attract brilliant university students to the CA profession.

“It will help create more brilliant CAs in the future. Only a university degree cannot fulfil the demand of the industry, business and trade as they require persons who have experience along with academic qualifications,” he noted.

“As the CA professional degree encompass practical experience, IT will add value to the job seekers to go forward in their career,” he said.

ICAB President Mahmudul Hasan Khusru, delivered the welcome address while Professor Dr Anwarul Kabir Rumi, Vice-Chancellor of State University of Bangladesh, Professor Atiqul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of North South University, and Dr Md Sadequl Arefin, Vice-Chancellor of University of Barishal also spoke in the programme.
