Who is Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund?

Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund is currently the head of the Taliban’s decision-making body, Rehbari Shura or the leadership council. It is reported that Hasan has worked for more than 20 years as the head of Rehbari Shura and he earned a very good reputation. It is also said that he is very religious and he hails from Kandahar province, the spiritual birthplace of the Taliban. He was also the founder of the armed movement.

According to the UN report, Hasan Akhund is one of the 30 original Taliban members. Moreover, the Taliban said that Hasan has worked in pivotal positions like the foreign minister, deputy prime minister. Not only this, he was also the Governor of Kandahar.

Hasan has studied at various madrassas in Pakistan and he holds prejudices against both westerners and mujahadeen and he is considered as one of the effective commanders.

Meanwhile, the Taliban said they will make a person head of Afghanistan who is less known. And, Hasan is considered a lesser-known Taliban leader and he is being called lightweight in several media reports.

However, the contest for power is still going on and the main contenders for the power are Mullah Baradar and the Kandahar.

It is also reported that in the last 40 years, the Taliban will be the only government that will rule all over Afghanistan as they took full control of the state earlier in August this year. The reports also suggest that the new government is likely to form by Wednesday or can be delayed for a few more days.
