Bangladesh reported 52 new coronavirus-related deaths, lowest in 85 days, in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Wednesday.
Health authorities also recorded 2,497 new infections during the same period.
The positivity rate on Wednesday dropped further to 9.07 per cent from Tuesday’s 9.69 per cent.
The overall caseload now stands at 15,22,302 and the total fatalities at 26,736, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The country earlier on June 15 reported 50 deaths of the deadly infection.
Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 27,528 samples at 799 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 91,46,371 samples.
Meanwhile, 3,840 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 14,64,594.
Among the fresh fatalities, 20 were males and 32 were females.
Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with 20 fatalities followed by 15 in Chattogram, nine in Khulna, three in Sylhet, two each in Barishal and Rangpur and one in Rajshahi.
Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
Mass vaccination for 2nd dose enters 2nd day
The government continued inoculating people against Covid-19 with a second dose under a mass vaccination campaign for the second day on Wednesday across the country.
People were seen standing in queues at different vaccination centres in Dhaka and elsewhere for receiving their second jabs since morning.
On Tuesday, the government started administering the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine under the mass vaccination campaign.
The people will have to take the second dose in the same centre where they got the first dose, as per the government decision.
People who received the first dose of the vaccine in city corporation areas on August 7 and 8 got the second dose on Tuesday.
Those who received the first dose on August 9 and 10 got the second dose on Wednesday.
The vaccine recipients who were inoculated on August 11 and 12 will receive second shots on Thursday.
People who received their first shot from outside of city corporation areas on August 7, also received their second shot from the same centres on Tuesday.
