Covid daily deaths drop further to 38, lowest in 3 months

Bangladesh reported 38 new coronavirus-related deaths, the lowest in the last 93 days, in a span of 24-hour till 8:00am on Friday.

Health authorities also recorded 2,325 fresh cases of Covid-19 infection during the same period.

On June 9 this year, Bangladesh reported 36 deaths from the deadly infection.

The positivity rate on Friday came down to 8.65 per cent from Thursday’s 8.76 per cent.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,27,215 and the total fatalities at 26,832, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday.

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 26,878 samples at 800 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 92,02,790 samples since the pandemic reached the country in March 2020.

Meanwhile, 3,856 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 14,72,067.

Among the fresh fatalities, 20 were males and 18 were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with 17 fatalities followed by 10 in Chattogram, five in Khulna, two each in Rajshahi and Mymensingh and one each in Sylhet and Rangpur.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) said on Friday that residents from Bangladesh and 14 other countries who had been fully vaccinated with a shot approved by the World Health Organization could return as of September 12.
