Covid positivity drops to 6-month low at 5.62%

Bangladesh added 43 new coronavirus-related deaths and 1,383 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Sunday.

The positivity rate dropped further down to 5.62 per cent — more than a six-month low. On March 9, the rate was 5.13 per cent.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,42,683 and the total fatalities at 27,225 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 24,623 samples at 810 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 94,37,656 samples.

Meanwhile, 2,887 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the past 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,01,541. Among the fresh fatalities, 22 were males and 21 were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with 19 fatalities, followed by eight in Chattogram, six in Khulna, four in Rajshahi, three in Rangpur, two in Sylhet, and one in Mymensingh. Barishal Division reported no new deaths.

Bangladesh reported its first case on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 29,031,398 and the death toll to 4,702,107 till Sunday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University update.
