CUB organises photo exhibition today to mark PM’s 75th birthday

Canadian University of Bangladesh has organised a special photo exhibition on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s contributions and achievements in the last 12 years at the national and international levels to celebrate her 75th birthday.

The three-day exhibition titled “Bangladesh: A decade of development” will be inaugurated at Sheraton Dhaka in the capital’s Banani today, says a press release.

It will feature photographs of Hasina’s development activities carried out in the last decade as the prime minister, various steps taken in the global arena, and different important events.

Visitors will also see rare pictures of various moments of her life. Speaker of Parliament Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will be present as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony at 11am.

Md Zahid Ahsan Russel, state minister for youth and sports, will be the special guest while Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Benoit Préfontaine will be the guest of honour.

Founder of Canadian University of Bangladesh and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat will preside over the event.

Canadian University of Bangladesh authorities said the event was organised to infuse youngsters with patriotism by presenting to them the prime minister’s development philosophy.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 10am to 7pm daily.

Local Government Minister Md Tazul Islam will be the chief guest on the second day while Zunaid Ahmed Palak, state minister for information and communication technology, will be present as the special guest.

The closing ceremony will be held at the hotel’s grand ballroom on Tuesday at 7pm. Salman F Rahman, private industry and investment adviser to the prime minister, will be the chief guest while Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Md Atiqul Islam will be the special guest.

Dr Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat will preside over the closing ceremony.

Hasina, the eldest child of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, came to power for the second time in 2009.

She has been leading the country by being elected the prime minister twice since then.

Before the 2008 elections, Hasina announced “Vision 2021” to realise Bangabandhu’s dream of building Sonar Bangla (Golden Bengal).

After securing an absolute majority in the elections, it has been a story of moving forward.

Bangladesh, once known as a flood-affected and poverty-stricken country, is now a role model for development around the world.
