Dhaka University held its admission test on Friday after a one-year delay forced by the coronavirus pandemic.

It is also the first time the exams are being held outside the capital.

This year, the entry tests are taking place in seven divisional cities to avoid the risks of Covid-19 infections. Friday’s 90-minute exam, starting from 11am, was held for the ‘Ka’ unit for the 2020-21 academic session.

The universities outside Dhaka where the exam was held are Chittagong University, Rajshahi University, Khulna University, Bangladesh Agricultural University in Mymensingh, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in Sylhet, Barisal University, and Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur.

Dhaka University Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani said the exam was held in a peaceful manner, maintaining health rules.

The coronavirus outbreak forced the university to suspend academic activities from March 2020. No entry test was held last year.

‘Kha’ unit entry test will be held today, ‘Ga’ unit on October 22, ‘Gha’ unit on October 23 and ‘Cha’ unit on October 9. A total of 3,24,340 candidates are vying for 7,148 seats offered by the five units.

Of them, 1,64,606 students will sit for the tests in Dhaka.
