State minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak has identified blockchain as one of the potential investment sectors in Bangladesh.

Palak came up with such a disclosure while addressing a press conference at Bangladesh Computer Council auditorium of the Information and Communication Technology Division at Agargaon in the capital on Wednesday.

The press conference was organised on the occasion of hosting a-three day "International Blockchain Olympiad 2021" beginning from October 8.

The event is going to be held in Bangladesh for the first time. It was previously held in Hong Kong.

In his keynote, Palak said, "Startups in our country have been very successful and have brought in over $500 million in foreign investment in the last five years and thus blockchain can be one of the investment sectors in Bangladesh."

“Universities and other educational institutions need to include this subject in their curriculum to encourage blockchain among the students.”

During the three-day Olympiad, which will be concluded on October 10, a total of four seminars are scheduled to be held, apart from other events.

The seminars will be on central bank digital currency and cryptocurrency, e-governance, identity and privacy, and fintech.
