Internet providers are no longer allowed to charge monthly bills to their customers if internet remains disconnected for three consecutive days.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission issued a directive to all Internet Service Providers (ISP) in this regard on Thursday.
According to the directive, ISPs are allowed to charge 50 per cent of the total bill if the connection remains disconnected for one day, and 25 per cent if disconnected for two days in a row.
Earlier on June 6, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission fixed the maximum tariff for broadband internet connection across the country under the "One Country, One Rate" tariff plan.
A customer will now pay Tk 500 a month for 5 Mbps internet speed, Tk 800 for 10 Mbps and Tk 1,200 for 20 Mbps broadband connection.
BTRC took the initiative to reduce internet price discrimination across the country.
