Covid-19: Daily deaths drop to 12, lowest in 7 months

Bangladesh on Thursday logged 12 new coronavirus-related deaths and 663 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am.

With this, daily deaths came down to a near seven-month low. The country reported 11 deaths on March 17.

However, the infection rate marginally increased to 2.97 per cent from Wednesday’s 2.88 per cent.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,60,818 and the total fatalities at 27,647 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 22,321 samples at 821 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 98,91,614 samples.

Meanwhile, 664 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,12,777.

Six males and six females were among the fresh fatalities.

Chattogram division logged the highest deaths with five fatalities, followed by four in Dhaka, two in Khulna and one in Rajshahi.

Barishal, Sylhet, Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions reported no new deaths. Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 237,189,242 and the death toll to 4,842,913 till Thursday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
