The three-day-long "International Blockchain Olympiad 2021" has successfully concluded through a colourful closing and award ceremony at the BCC Auditorium of ICT Tower, Agargaon, Dhaka on Sunday night.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi was present virtually as the chief guest on the occasion. State Minister for ICT Junaid Ahmed Palak was present as the special guest.

The 10 winning teams in both the Bronze and Silver categories received prizes worth more than $40,000.

Bangladesh won the Silver Award for the first time at the event. Out of the 12 participating teams from Bangladesh, four teams won the award.

The event was jointly organised by the ICT Division of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Computer Council, Blockchain Olympiad Bangladesh and Technohaven Company Limited.

This much-anticipated Olympiad was held in Bangladesh for the first time outside Hong Kong.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said, the International Blockchain Olympiad 2021 has been truly an extraordinary event with the participation of all, including the government, industries and academics.”

Blockchain is a kind of database technology that is a necessity in daily life, he added.  

State Minister for ICT Palak said, “It is making a huge difference in every case. Fintech, Agritech, Healthtech, Edutech - this blockchain will be used in each case today or tomorrow. So, we have to embrace this technology. We have to seize the opportunity.”

State Minister for ICT officially handed over the prizes among the winners of the event.

Earlier on October 8, the International Blockchain Olympiad 2021 took off in Dhaka, which was participated by students from all over the world.

A total of 12 countries participated in this global competition with 50 teams in total.

The participating countries were China, Hongkong, Vietnam, Philippines, UAE, Iran, Indonesia, Netherland, Nepal, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.
