3G, 4G mobile internet services restored after 11 hours

High-speed mobile internet services have been restored across Dhaka division after 11 hours as the services remained suspended since early Friday across the country.

Mobile phone users were experiencing an outage of high-speed internet services for around 24 hours across Bangladesh.

As per the instruction of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, the telecom operators have resumed 3G and 4G internet services on mobile phones in the Dhaka division from 4:30 pm on Friday.

According to the telecom operators, the high-speed internet services have also been restored from 5 pm in Barisal division while 6 pm in Khulna division. The service will gradually be restored in the rest of the country.

Regretting the inconveniences, the minister of Posts and Telecommunications Mustafa Jabbar has, however, blamed the technical glitches for the countrywide outage of high-speed internet services.

Internet service on mobile phones was first shut down in Cumilla last Wednesday following the violence erupted centering communal tensions in the district town amid Durga Puja.

The next day on Wednesday, mobile internet service was shut down in five districts namely Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Brahmanbaria, Rajshahi and Chandpur.

As a result, 3G and 4G mobile internet services were unavailable in major areas across the country from 7:30pm on Saturday. Many subscribers even failed to get internet connectivity during the period. However, customers were able to use broadband internet.

According to BTRC, there were around 11 crores 54 lakh mobile phone internet users as of August last.
