BB seeks Tk 2,300cr in export cash aid from finance ministry

The Bangladesh Bank has asked the Finance Division under the Ministry of Finance to release Tk 2,300 crore to provide cash assistance for export companies till December.

In a letter, it told the Division Tk 2,300 crore in cash assistance might be required till December 31 in the second instalment for the current financial year.

Of this, about Tk 400 crore will be required in the jute sector and Tk 1,900 crore in others.

There is an allocation of Tk 7,350 crore in the current fiscal year’s budget to provide cash assistance for exporters.

The government is providing cash assistance for exporting 38 products in the current fiscal year to encourage export trade.

The amount of assistance ranges between 1 per cent and 20 per cent.

Earlier, the finance ministry in the first instalment for the fiscal year 2021-22 released Tk 1,700 crore on providing export incentives.

Of this, Tk 200 crore was disbursed in the jute sector and Tk 1,500 crore in others. The money was released in favour of the Bangladesh Bank.

Moreover, outstanding claims by commercial banks on the head till September 30 stood at Tk 400 crore.

Of this, Tk 100 crore was in the jute sector and Tk 300 crore in others.

In the current financial year, cash assistance increased by 7.64 per cent.

The allocation for cash assistance in the previous fiscal year was Tk 6,828 crore.

For the last four financial years, the allocation has been increasing.
