Covid infection rate drops below 2% after 18 months

Bangladesh on Saturday reported a daily Covid infection rate below 2 per cent for the first time since April last year.

The country recorded a 1.88 per cent positivity rate in a 24-hour period till 8:00am. Last year, on April 2, the country saw a 1.42 per cent infection rate.

Meanwhile, the health authorities reported six new coronavirus-related deaths and 293 infections. The number of new fatalities is the lowest in seven months. Bangladesh recorded five deaths in a single day on March 3.

In addition, Saturday’s caseload is the lowest in five months since May 15 when 261 cases were reported.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,65,174 and the total fatalities at 27,752, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 15,580 samples at 829 laboratories across the country.
