Covid-19: Daily deaths drop to 1, cases 154

Bangladesh reported one new coronavirus-related death and 154 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Saturday.

During this period, the positivity rate rose to 1.18 from Friday’s 1.12 per cent.

With this, the daily-case positivity rate in the country remained below 2 per cent for the 18th consecutive day.

In Bangladesh, the daily-case positivity rate reached its peak 32.55 per cent on July 24 this year.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,70,835, and the total fatalities at 27,891 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 13,072 samples at 833 laboratories across the country.

Bangladesh has so far tested 1,04,58,366 samples.

Meanwhile, 157 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,34,635. Only the Dhaka division logged one fatality. The deceased was male.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 249,264,747 and the death toll to 5,041,173 till Saturday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
