Vaccination drives to run at every school

Health minister Zahid Maleque on Thursday said that the Directorate General of Health Services teams will administrate Covid-19 vaccines in every school across the country.

He said that DGHS was providing vaccines in 18 vaccination centres in the capital and five schools were attached with each centre which created pressure on the centres and problems for students.

“To ease the sufferings of students, the DGHS will run vaccination drives in every school,” he said.

The DGHS is now administrating Pfizer vaccines among the school students in 23 districts. On November 1, the government started Covid-19 vaccination among students aged between 12 and 17.

The minister came up with the remarks at a discussion on antibiotic awareness organised by the Directorate General of Drug Administration at its office in the capital’s Mohakhali.

The minister also said that now antibiotics are used at excessive levels in fish and animal farming and in the cultivation of crops which ultimately threatens public health.

He said that the antibiotics are transferred to human bodies from the foods that create superbugs in the body and no medicine works against those.

“People lose immunity power due to taking huge antibiotics,” he said. He called for creating public awareness to reduce the use of antibiotics in agro-products.
