Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) based on cooperation to take the safe use of telecommunication services and technology-related activities of the country.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan attended the ceremony as the chief guest while Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Division Mustafa Jabbar was the special guest.
Md Sohal Rana, director of Radio Communication Study and Research Directorate of the Spectrum Department of BTRC and Md Shaogatul Alam, additional director (operations) of NTMC, signed the agreement on Wednesday, according to a press release.
As the chief guest, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan warned that the pattern of crime has changed, which is why they are preparing law enforcement to tackle the issue.
“The introduction of NEIR by BTRC has made it easier to identify mobile phones, which is commendable," the minister said.
Speaking as the special guest, Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar expressed his hope that the signing of the MoU between BTRC and NTMC will further accelerate the coordination of IT activities.
“At present, the rapid detection of criminals is the result of digital technology. In the future new technology will be used for the welfare of the people," he said.
BTRC Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder said that BTRC is the backbone of building a digital Bangladesh.
“A list of improvements will soon start to benefit the masses, including 4G wave allocations, construction of towers in border areas and more,” said the BTRC chief.
The Chairman of BTRC concluded by claiming that a particular group is involved in a conspiracy to discredit BTRC's activities in the advancement of Digital Bangladesh.
In his welcome address, Engineer AKM Shahiduzzaman, the commissioner of BTRC Spectrum Division, said that the information technology and telecommunication sector is the main driving force of Digital Bangladesh.
He also urged his co-workers to work tirelessly to bring information technology and telecommunication services to the doorsteps of the people.
"At present, 14 companies are producing mobile handsets in the country, and the mobile network has already expanded across Bangladesh. The use of technology in criminal activities, including spreading rumors through social media, is on the rise, and the MoU with NTMC will make the cyber world more secure and play an important role in curbing crime," he added.
