FDI proposals worth $2.7b received

The two-day International Investment Summit concluded on Monday has attracted $2.7 billion investment proposals from foreign investors of diverse nations. The overseas investment will take place in areas like engineering, ICT, cement, pharmaceuticals and apparel business, said Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Md Sirazul Islam.

“We have received investment commitment worth $2.7 billion from foreign investors at the investment summit. The major portion of the proposed investment will come from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” Sirazul told reporters after the summit.

“Three companies from China, two from Turkey and one from the USA are the major investors, among others.”

He said a string of suggestions came from the two-day summit on improving investment climate which will be implemented with the consent of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“Invest here, and get better return,” Sirajul said further.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said Bangladesh economy has been prospering and developing, as investors chose to park their fund in potential sectors of the economy.

“Bangladesh is a sustainable destination for investment.”
