Govt to adjust fuel prices after int’l market stabilises

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has said that the government will adjust fuel prices in the country after the price of the commodity stabilises in the international market.

Fuel price is still fluctuating in the international market, he said while talking to reporters after attending a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement on Thursday.

“The government will decrease fuel prices in the country if the prices of fuel decreases and stabilises in the international market,” the minister said.

Responding to another question, the finance minister said he supports the statement of Nasrul Hamid, state minister for power and energy that petroleum prices need to be adjusted downward if and when the international market gets stable.

“Now the market is flexible, the prices of fuels are fluctuating frequently’, he said.

Earlier on November 3, the government raised diesel and kerosene prices by Tk 15. A day later, the retail price of 12kg LPG (liquefied Petroleum Gas) was increased by Tk 54 to Tk 1,313.

Imports, exports, production of goods, electricity, transportation, daily commodity prices and even the services sector were affected by the increased fuel prices.

Besides, talking about money launderers, the minister said that he can’t take any measures over siphoning off money and law ministry will take action in this regard.

Recently, in the parliament Mustafa Kamal said that he has no idea who are actually siphoning off money from the country and asked the opposition MPs to provide him with a list of money launderers.

“I have noticed few names through newspapers while Bangladesh Bank and concerned authorities have been working against them.”, the minister said.

Information regarding government measures to prevent money laundering, their updates in past two years and how many people were brought to justice, will be disclosed, he said, adding that “But I can’t take any step against the money launderers as law ministry will take action over the matter.”
