Digital Bangladesh Day celebrated

The benefit of Digital Bangladesh has transformed the lives of people, and the government is working to this end to make the digital penetration sustainable, said State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak on Sunday.

The junior minister came up with the statement on the occasion of fifth Digital Bangladesh Day 2021 at a seminar held in Bangabandhu International Conference Centre yesterday.

The theme of this year was “Achievement of Digital Bangladesh, Benefits of All People”.

A wreath was laid at the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi No. 32. A rally was also held.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq was present at the seminar as the chief guest.

In his address, Anisul Huq said the e-judiciary system has brought dynamism to the judiciary system and made it easy for citizens.

“It helped us run trial even throughout the pandemic,” he added.

At the seminar, Zunaid Ahmed Palak asked the law minister to allow him to run the marriage registration system via website to avoid child marriage and fraud. The Law minister nodded with the request.

The state minister said his division is drafting acts for preserving data security and sovereignty of the country; this will be submitted soon to the Ministry of Law for review.

Palak informed the seminar that, “17 crore people are getting the benefits of Digital Bangladesh. The premier announced the vision of Digital Bangladesh on December 12, 2008. The vision of digital Bangladesh has become the dream of all the people of the country.”

To realise the dream of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the National ICT Policy 2009 was undertaken with a target to build knowledge-based human capital; promote innovation in economic and social systems; expand ICT infrastructure and its integration throughout the country; deepen utilisation of ICT services by government, private sector, Non-Government Organisations and citizenry; and to provide ICT services in every nook and corner across the country.

“We are following four-pillar models – building industrial infrastructures specialised for the ICT sector, empowering the grassroots through digital connectivity, digitizing public services and processes, and creating skilled human resources.”

“We have made government information and services accessible for all. The digitisation of national identity cards has made people’s lives easier and more secure in transactions and accessing services easier than ever.”

As a result of e-Nothi, office work is not getting pending and it has become possible to run a paperless office, claimed the minister.

“We are building the School of the Future to inspire the young generation to innovate. Now we are planning to use cobots a collaboration of robots and humans to do dirty and dangerous work,” he pointed out.
