After being denied entry to both Canada and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), former state minister information and broadcasting Md Murad Hassan finally returned home on Sunday afternoon.

Murad who recently lost his cabinet portfolio, party post, had left the country in his desperate bid to hide amid widespread criticism in the country, but in vain.

An Emirates flight (EK586) carrying Murad from Dubai landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 5:00pm, an official of HISA’s health department confirmed The Business Post. He came out of the airport around 6:15pm after completing all the formalities.

Earlier on Friday, Murad left Bangladesh at 1:16am by a flight of Emirates for Toronto via Dubai. Later, Canada Border Services Agency denied his entry into the country and he was sent back to Dubai on an Emirates flight from Toronto Pearson International Airport on Friday.

Petition filed to sue Murad

A petition was filed with the Cyber Tribunal on Sunday seeking its permission to file a case against disgraced former state minister under the Digital Security Act (DSA) for his anti-women remarks.

Advocate Omar Faruk, secretary of Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum, filed the petition with the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal on Sunday.

The other accused in the case was Mohammad Mohiuddin Helal alias Nahid, host of a Facebook live show.

Besides, three complaints were lodged against Murad in Chattogram, Rajshahi and Sylhet for his anti-women remarks.

HC writ challenging Murad’s MP post

Despite losing the cabinet portfolio and party post for his offensive remarks against women, Murad is still an MP.

Earlier on Wednesday, a writ was filed with the High Court challenging the legality of Murad Hassan’s MP post on the same ground.

Supreme Court Advocate Yunus Ali Akhand who filed the petition with the apex court also sought judicial investigation into the activities of Murad, also the MP of Jamalpur-4 constituency.

Murad’s downfall

Murad recently drew widespread criticism after a two-year-old phone conversation of the junior minister with actor Mamnun Hasan Emon and actress Mahiya Mahi went viral on social media. In that audio clip, Murad made derogatory comments, threatened the actress and gave her indecent proposal.

Besides, several audios and videos containing indecent remarks by Murad Hassan also went viral on social media. He also stirred up controversy by making offensive remarks against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and her family members.

On Tuesday last, Murad Hassan quit the cabinet following the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for his offensive and indecent remarks on women. President Md Abdul Hamid accepted the resignation letter on the same day.

Soon after submitting his resignation letter, Murad Hassan also apologized to women in a post on his verified Facebook profile, where he wrote that “If I’ve made any mistake or if my words have hurt mothers and sisters, then forgive me.”

He also said he will abide by forever all the decisions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Besides, Murad was also stripped of the post of Health and Population Affairs Secretary of Jamalpur district unit Awami League for damaging the party’s image and his involvement in anti-disciplinary activities.
