4 burnt in Ctg shipbreaking yard explosion

Four shipbreaking yard workers sustained burn injuries in an explosion at the facility at Shitalpur in Chattogram’s Sitakunda on Saturday.

The victims are Sohail Rana, 25, from Natore, Zahid Hasan, 26, from Bogura, Firoz, 24, from Rangpur, and Mizanur Rahman Milon, 40, from Gaibandha.  

They were taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, and two of them were in a critical condition.

The accident at Jamuna Ship Breakers Yard occurred around 10am, fire service sources said.

Nazmul Ahsan, a firefighter at Kumira Fire Station, said the four workers were injured when they were dismantling a ship.

He said three firefighting teams arrived on the scene after the explosion, but the shipyard authorities themselves carried out the rescue operation.
